NEWCASTLE MISS OUT ON TOP-HALF FINISH

Newcastle United narrowly missed out on a place in the top ten at the end of the latest Premier League season despite winning six of their last eight games including the last two games.


The Magpieswere in the relegation zone when Eddie Howe took charge of the team towards the end of last year. Howe wasable to take Newcastle United out of the relegation and establish the team in mid-table. The Newcastle United boss was recognised for a place on the list of nominees for the PFA Manager of the Year award after the impressive start to his career at St. James Park. Howe was nominated alongside Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira, Liverpool manager JurgenKlopp and Brentford boss Thomas Frank. Howe lost out to Kloppfor the award with the Liverpool manager also winning the LMA Manager of the Year award after taking the Merseyside giants closer to winning the quadruple.

Newcastle United won their last two games of the season in the Premier League against Arsenal and Burnley. They were able to put a dent on the target of the two teams. Arsenal were beaten 2-0 at St. James Park with the two goals coming in the second half courtesy the own goal from Ben White and the strike from Bruno Guimares. The Gunners would have moved a step closer to achieving their target of finishing in the top four with an away over the Magpies. The defeat to Newcastle United ensured that Arsenal missed out on Champions League football.

In their last league game of the season, Burnley were beaten 2-1 at home by Newcastle United and the defeat sent the Clarets to the English Championship. Callum Wilson scored a brace with a goal in each half, while Maxwel Cornet scored for the hosts.
